SSPX Update

Just in case anyone happens to read this blog and does not also read Rorate Caeli:

This appears very promising. Let us continue to pray the SSPX is not made subject to diocesan bishops as part of this agreement (surely Bishop Fellay would not agree to such subjection...)!

I will be interested to know if this "rapproachment," for lack of a better word, will obligate the Pope to tighten the stays on progressives and maverick Bishops. If it does not, then I do not see SSPX hanging around, and I do not blame them. It is absurd to go through all this bending and twisting for an orthodox faction, yet merely look askance at the blatant apostasy and unbelief within the walls of the Church herself.

Gene, you've hit the nail on the head. Why must the SSPX jump through all these hoops where there are people in the Church who actually hold opinions contrary to the Church teaching, which the SSPX does not?

Why are those clergy who publicly appear to hold heretical views not made to sign "Doctrinal Preambles"? And how are we somehow in a more "full communion" with those who hold novel views than with the SSPX who hold views the Church has always held. If the Church was right before Vatican II, then the SSPX is right now.

Our prayers are needed that the SSPX is not made subject to any authority other than the Pope himself. They also need to solidify their position well in advance of the next Papal Election (many years to Pope Benedict!).

This news is promising, though. I anticipate the SSPX vocations would grow even more (and they are already booming). That might eventually have a direct impact on our diocese here in Savannah: if the SSPX could enter a Diocese without having to jump through hoops with the local bishop (something the FSSP cannot do), then we might see a Traditional presence here in Savannah...

Gene,

It appears that the Pope has been working to clean house, but there are so many messes it is hard to keep track of them all.

Father Z has an interesting post entitled 'LCWR Having a Bad Day...'. It appears that the LCWR will no longer be getting away with the outrages that they have been committing under the banner of V2!

Viva Papa!
